About Nicholas Cognasi

Nick Cognasi-2

From Autauga County

I’m Nicholas Cognasi, and I want to start by thanking you for considering me to serve as the next sheriff of Autauga County.
This county has been my home since 1996. I grew up in Pine Level and graduated from Prattville High School in 2005. I’m not just familiar with this community, I’m part of it.

If elected, I look forward to giving back to the place that helped shape who I am today and working to build a safer, stronger Autauga County for all of us.

Experience That Matters

Nicholas Cognasi for Sheriff

I have spent the last 16 years in law enforcement, and 4 of those years serving in the Army Reserve as an Engineer Officer.

My career began in 2010 with the Montgomery Police Department, where I gained experience in investigations and traffic enforcement. I later joined the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, serving on the command staff as the head of the patrol division and firearms qualifications for the department.

Education & Training

I hold a master’s degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Auburn University at Montgomery. This advanced education gives me the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for, respond to, and manage emergencies and disasters. With this training, I’m better equipped to protect Autauga County by improving public safety, strengthening emergency response plans, and helping ensure our community is ready for whatever challenges come our way.

Cognasi 4 Sheriff - from Autauga County

Rooted in Autauga County

Outside of uniform, I’m a husband and a father. My wife and I are raising four children who attend Autauga County Schools. This community means a great deal to me, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve as your sheriff. My goal is to protect Autauga County, support our deputies, and lead a professional law enforcement agency with a clear focus on service.

Putting Plans Into Action

I’m proud of where I come from and what I’ve learned through my years of service, but the real work is in what comes next. Autauga County is growing, and with that growth comes new challenges and new opportunities. I’m ready to tackle both. From improving training standards to addressing emergency response times and building stronger community programs, I believe there are practical ways we can improve public safety and strengthen trust.
